Why I Created The Somatic Sampler

By Kanjana | Founder, Wanderhome

I keep having the same conversation.

A therapist reaches out. Maybe they found me through Instagram, or a colleague mentioned Wanderhome, or they stumbled across one of my workshops. And they say some version of this:

"I know I want to add something somatic to my practice. I just don't know which modality is right for me."

They've been Googling. They've watched webinars. They've bookmarked training programs they can't quite commit to. They've asked in Facebook groups and gotten 47 different answers. And they're stuck.

I get it. I've been there.

When I started exploring beyond traditional talk therapy, I didn't have a roadmap. I had curiosity, a willingness to sit with discomfort, and a lot of trial and error. I studied at a Rinzai Zen temple in Japan, where I deepened my understanding of Reiki and meditation. I trained as an IAYT-certified yoga therapist. I became a Reiki Master. Each path taught me something different about the body, about healing, about what it means to truly hold space.

But here's what I wish someone had told me earlier: you don't have to figure it all out from a brochure.

The best way to know if a modality is right for you is to experience it in your own body. Not just read about it. Not just watch someone demo it on a stage. Actually feel it.

That's why I created The Somatic Sampler.

The problem we're solving

Most somatic and holistic training programs require a significant investment of time and money before you ever get to experience the work. We're talking thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours for certifications in modalities you may have only read about online.

For therapists with decision paralysis (and honestly, that's most of us), this is paralyzing. So what happens? Nothing. They stay stuck. They keep doing the same work, even when they know their clients need something more. Or they pick a training based on marketing rather than fit, and end up with a certification that doesn't align with how they actually practice.

The Somatic Sampler flips that. Instead of committing first and experiencing later, you experience first and then decide.

How it works

The Somatic Sampler is a two-part event.

Part one is a virtual CE panel on Wednesday, September 23, 2026 at 12 PM ET. Multiple clinicians will present the same case study through the lens of their own modality. You'll see how EMDR, somatic experiencing, brainspotting, yoga therapy, breathwork, and other approaches each handle the same clinical scenario. Side by side. No sales pitch. Just honest, clinical conversation.

Part two is an in-person summit in the Poconos in January 2027. This is where it gets real. Over a long weekend (Friday evening through Sunday midday), you'll rotate through experiential workshops led by the same clinicians from the panel. You won't just learn about somatic experiencing or Internal Family Systems. You'll practice it. In your own body. With other therapists who are on the same journey.

Room, board, and the full summit experience are included. The weekend is designed to be ND-friendly, with flexible scheduling, quiet spaces, and the understanding that everyone engages differently.

Why now

I've spent 16 years in social work. I've built a private practice. I founded Healing Hearts Wellness. And through Wanderhome, I've been creating retreats and trainings that honor the full humanity of the therapists who attend.

The Somatic Sampler is the event I wished existed when I was trying to find my path. It's for the therapist who knows they want more but doesn't know where to start. It's for the clinician who's tired of decision paralysis and ready to trust their body to guide them.

If that sounds like you, or like someone you know, I'd love for you to join us.
